Big Idea: Because Christ has made us a new people, we live a new way, loving one another and embodying his kingdom to the world.
Application: The table is where we learn to practice the kind of love Paul describes. We slow down. We listen. We make room. We bear with one another. We share what we have. Around a table, strangers can become friends, and friends can become family.
- Start with the people already at your table.
- Look around at the people God has already placed in your life your family, friends, church community, coworkers.
- The table is where we practice humility, patience, forgiveness, and bearing with one another in love.
- Make room for someone who isn't there yet.
- Jesus continually welcomed people to his table who were different, overlooked, or on the margins. So ask, “Who isn't at my table yet?”
- Invite a neighbor over.
- Take a coworker to lunch.
- Have someone from church over for dinner.
- Make room for someone who might not otherwise have a place.
- Let the table become a way of life.
- The goal isn't simply to host one dinner.
- It's to become people who naturally notice, welcome, share, and make room.
- Hospitality becomes one of the ways the love of Christ moves from us, to one another, and then outward into the world.
