Big Idea: Jesus doesn’t change every circumstance, but He changes us in them.
Application: If we want to be formed by Jesus, we have to be with Jesus. One way to do that is in a time of prayer. More specifically a time of prayer where we aim to just be with him, or behold him.
Below are a few rhythms to help you behold Jesus in your set time of prayer this week.
- Choose a short passage
- Be still
o Sit quietly.
o Slow your breathing.
o Let the noise settle.
- Read slowly
o Read the passage 2–3 times, unhurried.
o Let it sink in.
- Fix your attention on Jesus
o Ask:
-
- What does this show me about who Jesus is?
- What is beautiful about Him here?
- Stay there
o Resist the urge to analyze or move on.
o Just behold.
o Pay attention.
o Let your heart linger.
- Close with surrender
o A simple prayer: “Jesus, form me as I fix my eyes on You.”
The aim is to approach prayer not to ask Jesus for anything, but to spend time with him.
